Independent Shops of the Jordaan – A Living Guide

Last updated · We’re visiting shops on this list in person throughout July 2026 — photos, owner interviews and video portraits are added as we go.

The Jordaan has resisted what happened to most European city centres. Walk the small cross-streets between Westerstraat and Rozengracht and you will find almost no chain stores – instead, owner-run vintage shops, one-room galleries, specialty coffee bars and barbershops where the person cutting your hair also owns the chair. The neighbouring Haarlemmerbuurt has kept the same character on purpose, and the Negen Straatjes connect it all to the canal ring.

This guide only lists independent, owner-run businesses. No chains, no franchises, no sponsored placements. If a shop is featured here, it is because we walked in and liked it.

How this guide works

Every entry is based on an in-person visit. Where the owner had time for us, you will find a short interview and a video portrait. Shops are grouped by street area so you can use this as a walking route.
